First day of the year first blog entry

Today is the first day of 2014 and, like everyone else, we have many resolutions.
To begin with, we have decided to travel around the world. More than anything, our aim is to come out all right and to meet our goals.
For now, we have most of the flights purchased, we are just awaiting confirmation of a connection and have bought the last flight back home,everithing is under control...
Although I have never understood the obsession to leave behind one year and begin a new one, but this year I will go with the flow and last night I couldn't sleep thinking that everyday the time to start that special trip is getting closer.

The first idea the last idea

The round-the-world trip was Jordi’s idea. For both of us we had always loved to travel and we have done so regularly together since we met, but we have never done a big trip like this.

However we’ve done trips of more than a month in one country.

Also we went to live in London for a little more than a year and everithing went well (I wish I was still there), but this time it will be different, we’re going to distant, unknown places, we’re going to boldly go where no man has been before (Star Trek).

The initial idea was to go round the world in one year, taking a sabbatical, but this option frightened me and finally we decided to do it just in one summer.

To summarize, this is our route, I’m warning you it will be a bit crazy (we’ll  update you):

The first idea was Auckland instead of Honolulu, but we didn’t do it because it was not the right time of the year to do outdoor activities. We will have to do another journey to Australia in the future...

Also we were thinking of going to Las Vegas, to visit my North American family, the Fleckensteins (I stayed in their house in Simi Valley two summers to learn English, but finally we’ll go to Bogota, where we also have a friend, Dani.  We will meet them another time.

We buy the flight tickets

Getting the flight tickets was the most stressful part of our preparation, but this was only the beggining... The fact that we would have to pay out so much money in one go really scare us, but it is what we have to do.
Firstly we looked on the internet to find out what we would have to do to buy the tickets, this was where, thanks to the blog of other travellers, we found the round the world tickets, they are just a block of tickets you buy together and the price vary depending on the route.
We also looked later in some travel agents. However we didn´t see any enthusiasm in them and we quickly forgot that idea. Even now we are still waiting for a reply from one agent :)
Finally we decided to look at the search engines of comparison sites (We had used them before once to book a  flight).
We saw the best value flight, it was better to buy each of the tickets separately than in one package.
